A Great Nickname – Pastor Ken’s Blog

Pastor KenIn Acts chapter 4 we get to read about the exciting and explosive life of the new church in Jerusalem.  The religious leaders were opposing the gospel message every way they could, but in verse 4 we read, ” However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand”.  Wow…Praise The Lord !  Chapter 4 goes on to say that the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul.  Their common focus was to tell the gospel to everyone they could.  In order to do this many of them were quick to sell things, if need be, in order to help each other to go out with the gospel message.

In verse 36 The Lord introduces us to  Barnabas.  His real name was Joses…..or Joseph.   Barnabas was his nickname, which means, “Son of Encouragement”.   Wow….how cool is that !   How very cool….how wonderful….how huge would it be to be such a strong encourager of others, that your name is actually changed to be “Son of Encouragement”.

How about it ?  Are you quick to criticize ….. put the brakes on when someone comes up with a new idea…..skeptical….or are you such an encourager that your friends and family are tempted to “nickname you Barnabas” ?

Lord….help me to be a Barnabas
